Medical gases are safe in everyday use; however a simple error due to a lack of understanding or the use of inappropriate practice can put both patient & staff at risk. The result could be an incident which may have far reaching effects.

These classroom workshops provide support to meet the training obligations of HTM 2022 which recommends gas safety training for all nurses, porters and medical staff.

Medical Gas User - 1.5 hours:

• Fire hazards of oxygen enrichment
• Identification & cylinder preparation
• Regulator fitting
• Leak testing
• Regulator removal
• Faulty cylinder procedure
• Basic manual handling techniques

Medical Gas User - 3 hours:

As for Basic Medical Gas User plus:

• Hazards & properties of medical gases
• Medical gas cylinder manifolds
• Safe storage of cylinders
• Segregation
• Labelling
• Signage
• Further manual handling techniques
• Emergency procedures

Medical Gas User - 1.5 hours:

• Gas properties
• PPE
• Movement of LN in lifts
• Oxygen enrichment & deficiency
• Vessels & ice plugs
• Pre fill checks
• Hazards from cold
• Spillage emergency actions
• First aid for cold burns
